Hi Point handguns are almost legendary in the firearms industry. Being the cheapest, bulkiest, ugliest pistol out there, I just had to give it an honest “review” and challenge myself to see how well I could shoot with it.
Accuracy
My primary motive of this video was testing the Hi Point C9‘s accuracy. Having just come back from visiting National Association of Gun Rights, we fooled around with a C9 and I could actually hear the bullet flying through the air and couldn’t connect at further distances. This led me to believe the pistol had no accuracy at all. However, as shown in the video, at least with premium ammunition, it performed fairly decent for a $160 pistol.
Handling
It’s a $160 gun. I kept that in mind during this review.
The trigger actually felt lighter than 8#, but it had no wall. Just a long squish. And once, the trigger actually didn’t reset and I had to pull on it a few times before it fired.
We had 3 malfunctions in around 125 rounds. Not ideal as well. 2 were on the first round fired. The C9 didn’t want to feed the next round in the magazine without a swift “tap” to the magazine.
And on the subject of the low quality, low capacity magazine: it did not like to seat. Several times after seating with decent force, the magazine still wasn’t seated and required a good amount of pressure for the catch to engage.
Final Thoughts
I came into this review with low expectations. So if it seems that I’m somewhat favorable in the review, it’s because it was hitting fairly decently, and I kept in mind this was about the cheapest handgun ever produced. Is it better than your fingernails in a fight? Yes. Are there much better options out there for just a little more money? Absolutely.
Think of a defensive firearm as a parachute. It needs to save your life, and you probably don’t want to ask for the “cheapest one there is”. Heck, we nearly put more money in ammunition through this than the gun’s worth. So choose accordingly, and just laugh with me at the Hi Point.
